The development of the brand in Italy and abroad has led to an upgrade of the facility, which now includes three tunnel kilns and two chamber kilns. The departments responsible for shaping and colouring the ceramics, staffed by skilled decorators, are located in the large covered structure established in the 1970s. Additionally, there are technical areas for the storage of semi-finished products, packaging, and outdoor spaces for handling. The covered area spans approximately 7,000 square metres out of a total of 11,000 square metres.
ìSTORAGE OF CLAY MATERIAL
A warehouse where clay is deposited in blocks that have already been filtered and selected for production by the world-leading ceramic products manufacturer: COLOROBBIA SPA;
TRANSFER
This process feeds production by distributing the necessary materials to workstations (presses or "de-gassing" machines for wheels) and subsequently fractionating the blocks for feeding the presses;
MOULDING
The clay is shaped using presses or manual techniques on the wheels;
FINISHING
ìThis involves completing the object and/or applying handles;
DRYING
ìThe newly created product is dried, reducing moisture from about 23% to around 2% through a natural process that takes from 24 to approximately 72 hours.
FIRING
The dried product is fired in a kiln at around 1,000°C. This triggers the chemical-physical processes that transform the clay into terracotta (raw products). The classic red colour results from the oxidation of iron in the clay, a direct consequence of the high temperature. At this point, the raw product can either be sold as is or undergo further processing;
SELECTION OF SEMI-FINISHED PRODUCTS
The so-called biscuit is selected and made available for glazing; small imperfections resulting from the process are eliminated.
GLAZING
The raw terracotta object is immersed in a thick liquid (glaze) that gives the ceramic product its classic glossy surface after firing.
DECORATION
Applied using brushes, airbrushes, and sponging, this adds taste and style to the base product prepared during the first firing. In many cases, the decoration is enhanced by the use of decals derived from original designs;
SECOND FIRING
The glazed and decorated ceramic product undergoes a second firing, which gives the objects a shine through a vitrification process of the glazes. Made impermeable, it can contain liquids without any transpiration.
